Snocore consisted of an ancient temple discovered by archaeologists and some old caves where none live anymore. Nobody knew too much about Snocore because scientists kept it a secret. Pete Sampsun, late descendant of Dr. Bart Sampsun or the Green Mesa research team was the biggest Snocore fanatic and tried to find out everything he could about Snocore. His great grandfather had left him some information on it, but he never could see it. One day, Pete Sampsun broke into Snocore, and escaped the guards in the guard towers to find himself inside the old temple. After running from the guards he found himself in a ancient burial chamber which had 6 graves. Pete wondered who was buried in the graves and decided to open one up. Using his "Tau Cannon," which his great grandfather, Bart Sampsun, gave him (it is passed down generation to generation), he cut a square hole in the top of the grave so he could open it up. Once he had finally opened it, he discovered a skeletion which was infested with some kind of roach. As soon as he saw this, the lights suddenly went out! Seconds later, he heard a bunch of noises, like bugs. Soon something bit him, another one, and another! He did not make it too far, I think halfway up the stairs, before he was bitten so bad he died. Several days later, the guards discovered his dead body and removed it from Snocore. This incident was all over the papers and really started to make people wonder what was in Snocore. Now, its your turn to find out, as the guards have agreed to let up to 32 scientists into Snocore after taking an oath not to release information on it to the public. You were picked to go in! Now the only question left: CAN YOU SURVIVE? ================================================================ DESCRIPTION ================================================================ This is a large map suitable from anywhere from 4 to 32 players. It contains a large temple, a huge cave, and a outdoors area complete with sniper towers. Both the cave and temple have their own traps. The cave has a bottomless pit, while the temple has a burial chamber where you can turn off the lights and release a load of snarks on your opponents. Both the cave and temple have a secret room and there are secret areas throughout. I'd recommend this map to anyone who enjoys Opposing Force Deathmatch/Teamply becuase you don't want to miss this. Starting off, you enter the temple through the main front and immeaditly find yourself in a dining hall where the main course tonight is Snarks. To the left of the dining hall is the living quarters which connect to a back hallway where you will find the BUTTON OF DEATH (which triggers the Snark trap). If you exit the dining room to the right you will find yourself in the upper level of the burial chamber. The back hall circles around the burial chamber and ends up on the other side for people who want to avoid it. But, the only Tau Cannon in the map is in the burial chamber and it provides quicker access to different areas of the temple. There is a small storage room at the other end of the back hall which connects to the room I like to call "the courtyard," simply because it can take you anywhere else in the temple or back to the outdoors area. The signs above the doors tell you where the passages leads to add to the connectivity. The sign on the with the skulls means "death," the sign with the sun means "royalty," and the sign on the with the triangle means "punishment." You will see these textures throughout the level and they are signifigant to the area you are in. There is a grand hall which leads to the backyard of the temple or the dungeon. The dungeon is under the temple and provides an alternate path than going through the busy courtyard. Going back to the front of the map, on the opposite side of the temple, is one of the entrances to the caves. The caves have many halls that look similar, but the rooms all look very different and unique, so you shouldn't get lost at all. The halls twist and turn throughout. The first hall of the cave from the front outdoor area leads to a small outdoors area and then into the main cave. You can go left or right and it will take you different places. If you choose right, it will take you to the main outdoors cave area with a spore launcher and many rocks. This area serves as the "courtyard" of the cave. There is a passage from there that you can take to the bottomless pit, which is the only place to get the displacer, or into the beautiful room with the big waterfall. Back to the entrance to the main cave, if you choose left, you wind up in a strange hall and then into a room with a healthcharger and a big rock. From there, it connects you to the big waterfall room. Now in the big waterfall room with the lake, there is a passage which leads to the bottomless pit, and a passage which leads back outside after passing thorough a small chamber. There are several more halls that take you to the room with the little waterfall, then to the room with the crates, and then to the backyard of the temple...whew. The backyard of the temple also serves as a big fighting area complete with a m249 SAW and both health and PCV chargers. Finally, there is a blocked off passage which leads to the rest of the map (which is really not there). The outdoors area is in the exact center of the map and includes two sniper towers and two yards, as well as a big arch. ================================================================ USEFUL FACTS/HINTS/BUGS ================================================================ -This map is vey large and is made for large games, but also supports a small numbers of people for LAN games. Like I did in Total Destruction, I tried to include things for everyone's style of play. The temple is more for fraggers and there are hardly any camping spots. The outdoors area supports snipers mainly because of the sniper towers and sniper rifle. The caves support fraggers and the outdoor areas of the cave could see a little camping, but come on, its the spore launcher (lag launcher), they won't last for long. - There is one torch that is black, IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS, u can find out why (hint hint) - Some of the backs of the textures are black, but only in dark areas so it is not real noticible though, and actually looks quite good. - You may get turned around at first, espically in the caves, but once you learn the map it will be better. - I HATE SPORES, it is a known fact. Not only are they annoying as hell, but they are laggy as well. Sometimes the spores might mess up (don't ask how), but this is not my problem, and probably won't occur. - Look up to high places to find a hidden spore and displacer. - I'm not going to say a peep about the BIG secret, but you are rewarded well if you find it. - If you Tau jump alot, sometimes you might get stuck in the cliffs or something. I fixed all of the main ones, and I don't think there are any left, so becareful all you Tau jumpers. - Once the Snark Trap starts, the room with the snarks will get VERY LAGGY (eploy goes way up). This is an added bonus to the trap; not only do you cover them in snarks, but you lag them to hell too! Truly evil. Don't worry though, when the trap is not in action there is no lag in that room whatsoever. - R_speeds are jsut so low, it makes me so happy. The eploy is espically great. - New textures are compiled into this map, so the file is larger. When downloading from a server, the map is around 3 MB since Half-Life does not use .zip support. It is recommended you download from the internet. - Server hosts: this map supports mp_weaponstay on or off, but it is recommended you put mp_weaponstay to 0. - No bugs that I could find. - Oh yea, if you hear a rumble and/or your screen shakes, don't be scared, it is just the bottomless pit sucking helpless victims into it. - Finally, the signs above the doors in the stonehenge courtyard looking room are signifigant. Walk in from outside. The sign on the left means "death," the sign on the opposite passageway means "royalty," and the sign on the right means "punishment." You will see these textures throughout the level and they are signifigant to the area you are in. - The name "Snocore" came from the word "Sno-cone" Like a Sno-cone, this map is cold and fun for everyone. - This is my first map with penguins in it! They piss people off so use em wisely! - I could not use a custom sky because it would make the .zip file bigger (500kb bigger) and you can't download skies from servers, so I figured, whats the point? If my map was smaller I would have included it, so you'll just have to live with the desert sky. You can't really see the cliffs anyways so I figured it was the most like snow. ================================================================ THE BOTTOMLESS PIT TRAP ================================================================ -To activate the bottomless pit trap, a living thing must be sacrificed to the pit. This means you can shoot a hornet, throw a snark, penguin, or yourself into the pit and the trap will activate and suck everyone near the pit into it. So if you don't want to sacrifice yourself to the pit, sacrifice any other living thing you are carrying, but you better get out of there fast or it will suck you in. The earth will shake near the pit and the rumble sound can be heard throughout the entire map. ================================================================ THE SNARK TRAP ================================================================ -To activate the snark trap, press the button outlined in skulls located behind the picture of the lady in the Burial Chamber. To get behind the picture, just go down the back hall and you'll see an opening (if the door isn't closed). You can wait for someone to enter the room so you can press the button, but watch your back. Once the button is pressed, you will hear the wind blow out the torches. For about 5 seconds you can watch the room untill you hear the door behind you start to close. You must get out before the door is closed or poison gas will release in the button room and kill you. Also, watch out that the door doesn't crush you. The trap takes 200 seconds to reset. ================================================================ WEAPON/AMMO/ITEM AMOUNT ================================================================ Crowbar- starts with Pipe Wrench- starts with Knife- 3 Barnacle Grapple- 2 9mm Hand Gun- starts with 357 Magnum- 2 Desert Eagle Pistol- 3 Shotgun- 3 9mm Assault Machine Gun- 3 Crossbow- 2 RPG Rocket Launcher- 1 Hornet Gun- 1 Tau Cannon (Gauss)- 1 Egon- 1 SAW m249- 2 Sniper Rifle- 2 Displacer- 2 Shock Roach- 2 Spore Launcher- 1 Satchels- 5 Hand Grenades- 3 Tripmines- 3 Snarks- 2 Penguins- 2 ---------------------------- 357/Desert Eagle Ammo- 6 SAW Ammo- 4 Sniper Rifle Ammo- 4 Assault Rifle Clip- 6 AR/Hand Gun Bullet Box- 2 Hand Gun Clip- 2 AR Grenades- 4 Shotgun Ammo- 6 Crossbow Bolts- 7 Tau Cannon/ Egon/ Displacer Ammo- 4 RPG Rockets- 3 Spores- 20 --------------------------- Long Jump Modules- 2 Batteries- 9 Health Kits- 11 Intermission Cams (where it goes when u die, but don't respawn)- 6 Respawns- 34 Single Player Start- 1 Traps: Snark Trap, Bottomless Pit Secrets: A BIG secret room with egon, a small secret room with a longjump, a hidden passageway, a hidden displacer, some hidden areas ================================================================ CONSTRUCTION ================================================================ Base : Scratch Editor(s) Used : Worldcraft 3.3, PAK Explorer, Half-Life Model Viewer, Sprite Viewer, Wally Build Time : Real long off and on, I think I started, um... back last summer Compile Machine : Dell PII 400mhz, 128MB RAM, Voodoo 3 3000AGP Compile Time :QSCG- 53 seconds :QBSP2- 57 seconds :VIS- 599 seconds :QRAD- 1187 seconds (left computer alone) ================================================================ CREDITS ================================================================ Thanks to: 1.)
